In The Post

Why is this latest package so so cool?

1. It came from far, far away (the little Hong Kong stamps nearly made me cry)
2. It's a fantastic book about how to learn a language, any language. I would recommend it highly. (Or ask Paulie, the original guinea pig)
3. It was sent to me by Chris Lonsdale, author of the book. It's cool enough getting a signed copy of a book in the post from the author, but here's why I'm really excited. I was featured in the Acknowledgments page, just how cool is that (ok, cheap thrills, I know).

Ok, closing thoughts. Learning Spanish has been an incredibly fun and powerful experience. Seeing the world in a different way and the absolute high of being able to connect with people and relate to a new culture. Makes me want to do this again and again.

2006 Language Goals: Keep working on the Español. Improve Tamil & Urdu. And learn Mandarin.

Lofty maybe, but it's such a fun thought!

First time to your blog and extremely impressed. I have always wanted to go to some place like Peru and look for Incan civilization remains.... also impressed by u'r lifestyle and the good circle of friends you seem to have.

An iyer boy in sam's land and also partially a chennaite...

Hey Naaz,

Definitely worth the read... I got the book through one of the author's friends who's mentioned in the credits - Huaying..

Helps prepare you pschologically to learn the language and take a dive into the culture. The day after I began reading it, I got the feeling I could understand atleast 30% of everything being said to me and I know about 50 words in Mandarin! :P

anon - Iyer folks are always welcome in the Naazita world... I am such a fan of all things iyer, you have no idea. And go on, go off to Peru or whatever and tell us all about it (if you pick Colombia, you won't be sorry!).. :)

Pierre - it is a cool book aint it. It makes you look at the language learning process in a whole new fun way. Keep working on the mandarin!

Rat - Well, Chris Lonsdale, is a good friend of Paul Coffey (aka Paulie, one of my famed 'family members' in HK)... and that's how we got in touch. I don't really know him... but sent in some feedback on the draft of his book...being a language learner and what not (thus the acknowledgement)

Te extrañare a ti y tus aventuras. I will keep checking your post on your new experiences wherever you go. YOU GO GIRL!

Does this book really make learning languages easier? I'll pick up a copy if it does.
